Tikvah is a poetic documentary centring around the theme of hope over fear. It contains no voice-over, and explores four key concepts - how fear cripples, how love enables, how community supports and how faith empowers. Tikvah hopes to shed a new perspective to life and give hope, as the current world is one filled with fear. After all, the film’s title “tikvah” is Hebrew for “hope”. Featuring no human faces, but instead having the characters depicted through hands and shoes, Tikvah draws influence from Terrence Malick’s films and Christianity, and uses creative visual storytelling techniques such as juxtaposition, still photographic shots and changes in colour grades and aspect ratios. Best viewed with headphones. My graduation short film.
